Picture: a dust spiral dancing through the brush on a high desert plain under a big blue sky—that stretches as far as the eye can see.
Hear: the faint sound of Billy Strings’ “In The Morning Light” as it builds and the moody bluegrass brings with it a galloping beat of hooves. In a flash, like lightning, a horse and rider speed past, “Whoosh!”
They fade quickly on the horizon, traveling swift across the wide open No Man’s Land that is destined for progress.
Set against the backdrop of America’s Western frontier in 1860, seen through the eyes of young abolitionist, Evangeline Martin (20s) and her family, this historic, thrilling, and romantic adventure series will highlight the spirit of freedom and moral conviction. Evangeline comes face to face with the realities of living life as a pioneer woman as she navigates her rustic environment and processes where she stands amidst the growing tensions of a divided nation. She must dig deep examining her place and contribution in the rapidly changing world around her. She falls in love for first time and handles powerful feelings never felt before.
Buckland’s Station is a home station for the newly formed Pony Express on the border of the free state of California and the Utah/Nevada territory. We will follow the lives of station keepers, the Martin family and witness the budding true romance of young Evangeline and Pony Express rider, Robert “Pony Bob” Haslam (20s). Pony Bob is one of the hand selected riders chosen to ride the Nevada/Utah desert route and Pacific Slope into California.
An ambitious Overland Trail endeavor and enterprise, the Pony Express, is comprised of a select group of brave young men who heroically race the wind to get the mail through. Conquering the often unpredictable forces of nature, tensions of a divided nation, and the hostility of local natives being encroached upon, riders overcome many obstacles. With the sheer physical stamina of both man and beast, they provide vital connection and communication between East and West.
The Pony Express, Lincoln’s Inaugural address, & an abolitionist girl are brought together by Providence at the brink of the Civil War.
